he was our 2nd grade classroom mindfulness friend.
i found him lodged between a window one day while i was walking my students back to class.
they (and i) thought he was so cute, we all named him together and somehow he became our mindfulness mascot.
every time we practiced mindfulness at the end of our morning meetings,
spotty would join us.
by the end of the year, there were about 6 mini stuffed animals that the students brought in so we could adopt them into our mindfulness family.
as we prepared to say goodbye at the end of this school year,
i gave back all of the stuffed animals.
except spotty.
my students insisted i take spotty with me to france and spain.
and now this giraffe is getting a free ride all the way to europe,
thanks to my former 2nd graders.
that passport wallet is from my visit to korea 2 years ago.
gina is finally getting to use it - and she's very excited about it.
and how appropriate, little Eiffel Towers adorn the wallet.
thank you for the wanderlust tie, megan!
and off we go...
(i only finished packing earlier this afternoon...don't tell gina)
cool as a cucumber.
except 2 nights ago, i had a huge meltdown with papers amassed around me like a little moat.
luckily, gina was also in a terrible mood.
so we ended up arguing that evening, which was perfect timing for our trip less than 48 hours away.
it really added some spice to the whole "looking forward to this amazing trip!" high we were on.
even luckier -
we're very close.
so we had at it, and now we're back on solid ground
(only to be air-bound in a few hours. unintentional pun!)
and more importantly, most of those papers are organized and tucked away into a folder entitled, "Eurotrip!"
spot the giraffe in upcoming pics
with a particular focus on food,
thanks to my teacher-friend and colleague who shares my embarrassing habit of uncontrollable eating of mammoth portions who gave me this idea...try not to choke on your White Castle burgers, gladdys ;)
